15 Stories for 15 Years! Story #12...

We’re featuring 15 stories for our 15th anniversary! 2021 is the Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center's 15th year at Freedom Park. To celebrate, we will share 15 stories that highlight important moments in our history, remarkable people we've met along the way, lessons learned, milestones reached, and how Friends of Freedom Park and the surrounding communities have supported each other over the years.

Story #12: Food and fun. Those have always been part of Freedom Park. Who remembers "Taste of Freedom"? Kris Sampson organized the event as one of our first fundraisers. It was part of an effort to generate $440,000 in matching funds required to build the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center.

A popular Prescott restaurant called Confluence hosted that first event with wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres. Fun fact: Kimberly Braun (current owner of Lucille's) ran the front of the house for Confluence at the time. After the restaurant closed, the party moved to the park and continued for several years as an annual event.

Local restaurants and businesses joined together to wine and dine donors in a "Taste of Freedom". These establishments continue to support Freedom Park year after year, for which we are deeply grateful—Ptacek's IGA, Enrique's, Muddy Waters Bar and Grill, Vino in the Valley, and Churchill Market to name a few.

Faithful from the very beginning, Kris Sampson led the effort again for our 2021 annual fundraiser, Sunset Soirée: Party in the Park! This free, family-friendly event included live music, yard games, cash bar, a red dot sale in our gift shop, stories from our founders, and a beautiful sunset toast at Everts' Point.

We love to throw parties at the park. So do you. That's why we've made it our mission to connect people to life at the confluence. We've always been a place where people gather. Freedom Park = fun, connection, food, parties, rentals, weddings, music, laughter, and inspiration.

Donate today to polish the gem of Prescott and maintain the beauty of this special place!
